SE Forage Innovation
The first stages of SE Forage Innovation (SEFI) aimed to produce 40t DM/ha/year on cool climate dairy farms. It trialed a ‘complementary’ forage rotation and developed resources to assist farmers in growing cool climate summer maize crops. This project was linked to Future Dairies and funded by DairySA and Dairy Australia.
SEFI stage 3 (SEFI 3) aims to:
- Nutritionally described Perennial Ryegrass, establishing its variability across variety and maturity, with particular reference to its protein profile.
- Collect information, data and knowledge for inclusion in a decision support tool
- Explore decision support tools for relevance and capability to either a) provide the model or, b) provide components of basis of a model, or c) help determine what is not required in this projects model.
- Develop a decision support tool (model) that can assist farmers in optimizing farm productivity and margin over feed cost
The project is funded by DairySA and Dairy Australia.
